Although I haven’t written today, until now, it’s actually been a busy day. When I wasn’t doing yard work I was reading and listening to videos. But I simply didn’t come across anything that I thought I could work into something worth publishing. However, here are a few stories that may prove of interest.
My wife came across this symposium that’s being sponsored by conservative students at The University of Chicago. It’s really quite a lineup—most readers will recognize many of the names:
Live Stream: ‘Academia’s COVID Failures’ Symposium – The Chicago Thinker
Academic Sanity Consortium is days away from hosting Academia’s COVID Failures, a symposium that will take place on the University of Chicago campus on May 19, 2023, from 11 AM to 4:30 PM Central.
Guests will include Scott Atlas and Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford University, George Mason University Law Professor Todd Zywicki, Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn, George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley, and Ilya Shapiro, the director of constitutional studies at the Manhattan Institute.
The Thinker will live-stream the symposium on this page. In the meantime, kindly bookmark it for easy access.
Obviously it will be quite lengthy, but it may be worth checking out. I don’t know whether they’ll publish any of it later.
This next item is a bit of a feel good story in the final result, but also a bit of a downer for what it tells you about how dysfunctional our court system is:
California officials to pay $1.4M to churches after abortion mandate backfires
California officials have agreed to pay $1.4 million in legal fees for churches that pushed back against a state mandate that abortions be covered in health insurance plans.
Attorneys with the nonprofit Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) successfully resolved two lawsuits dating back to 2015 and 2016 involving four churches that objected to the abortion-coverage mandate, the nonprofit legal organization announced last week.
Eight years, give or take, to get this resolved? The wheels of justice hardly move at all, it seems. Not to mention the expense. Yes, the churches are getting their legal fees from the state, but they’ve been out of pocket for a long time. Shades of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce.
Shifting gears to Ukraine, here’s a brief big picture look from Big Serge and Will Schryver today:

The Russians have been relentlessly striking BIG ammo dumps over the past few weeks.
Either the AFU has suddenly become remarkably careless, or Russian intel has dramatically improved -- or perhaps the depot locations are being deliberately betrayed to them.

Russia is striking at will in Ukrainian rear areas because Ukrainian AD is degraded at the same time they have to move many of their remaining systems up to cover concentration areas at the front.
The shiny new Patriot PAC3 battery went to protect Kiev. There's precious little left to protect rear areas, which is why virtually every weapon in the Russian arsenal is now able to freely traverse the breadth of Ukraine and hit whatever they want.
Lastly, some reflections from a friend/reader. I've edited these slightly for privacy reasons and added a link. Regular readers will recall that I put a lot of emphasis on the role of Richard Dearlove and other elements of the Brit Deep State when the Russia Hoax was in full swing. Most recently, we also noted that Dearlove was the lead in the emergency delegation to Kiev when Zelensky went off the rez and talked to Xi. So I found these reflections fascinating:
I’ve dug into the origins of the Russian collusion scenario and found
Clapper and Brennan are frankly too stupid to have put this plot together. I dug into the strange behavior of MI6 head Richard Dearlove. Why after his “retirement” as head of MI6 did he show up in DC and stay until the very day Obama left the WH with the Inauguration of Trump?
He wasn’t working out of the Embassy or some K street office. No one seems to know where he was. I have sightings of his frequent appearances in the West WingAccording to their MI 6 colleaguesd, Dearlove and Steele were joined at the hip. Most of MI 6 hated Steele as a pretentious blowhard. No one understood this relationship but it was very real. Steele’s job was to get a big check for putting together the dangle. He did. Our idiots climbed aboard eagerly.
MI6 and Dearlove’s priority was to destroy Trump so they could undo Brexit. Remember MI6 works for the Crown, NOT the British government. Remember Brennan’s strange references in late 2016 to “Crown material?”
Dearlove ran his operation out of Christopher Andrew’s Cambridge Intelligence study group… the same place used to entrap Papadopolous and Halper used to try to create a honey trap for Gen Flynn, coordinated through CIA London.
Christopher Andrew was an obscure academic who came to world attention as the editor of the Mitrokin files in THE SWORD AND THE SHIELD—he was an MI5 scribe and agent.
So the childish faith of our Intel Cabal idiots in their British colleagues’ “Crown material” was the key to all this.
So the question arises, how was it that—I mean, really—that Chris Steele dropped into place at Fusion GPS. The Bull Durham Non-Report appears to confirm what many have long believed. Nellie Ohr was the real author of most of the Steele “Dossier”. Steele was the frontman for presenting it to the FBI. I don’t want to dislocate an elbow here, but I’ll give myself a bit of a pat on the back. This is the first paragraph from something I wrote in February, 2018:
What seems to be slowly emerging from the murky background of the Russia Hoax--or perhaps I should be saying The Great Russia Hoax--is that Christopher Steele was more of a frontman for the "dossier" than an actual author. While his writing skills are not in doubt, honed as they were in his days as a student Leftist at Cambridge, it's becoming clear that his true usefulness to the Clinton Campaign had to do with his credentials. The FBI and DoJ couldn't very well go in front of the FISC with an application and attached affidavit and tell the judge, This is something that Nellie and the boys or, as might be, Sid and the boys, came up with. No, much better to be able to talk about a former Spook from an allied country with experience of Russian matters, who has Russian sources, who knows their tradecraft, methods, and goals. Who is familiar with their desire to sully the purity of our political processes. And perhaps best of all, conservatives and Republicans tend to be an Anglophilic bunch, and thus less inclined to question the representations of a source from "British Intelligence."
On closer examination, that narrative didn't hold up well to closer examination. …
