There is certainly a battle of values. Trump has been an aberation and hopefully will be gone soon. The traditional American support for democracy and human rights etc. stands in sharp contrast to the values the Chinese are exporting, which are co-opting or corrupting national elites and empowering them with technological tools to control any political opposition. These are starkly different visions of how the world should be run.
