Such concern is understandable but it’s important to recognise that what’s keeping Taiwan safe is not international attention but economic reality ... China’s oil and food supplies pass thorough the Taiwan Strait, and it gets most of its advanced chips from Taiwan. That doesn’t mean the US can afford to move the Seventh Fleet out of the region, but it does reduce the odds of Beijing doing something as self-defeating as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or Hamas’s bloody attacks from Gaza.
