The sad reality is HK opposition overplayed their hands, went down the Orange Revolution route route and backed PRC/Xi into a corner. It’s clear that CCP viewed HK opposition working with US to establish HK as an anti-CCP beachhead, which crossed the red line in their view. The reality is more complicated than PRC just crushing HK’s system, which they certainly did, but what do you expect when a large faction of the opposition position themselves as anti-CCP revolutionists?
