Agree with Ken. Another point is there may not be as much of a difference between Hu/Wen and Xi in terms of personal ideology. Hu was operating under constant threat from the Shanghai/Jiang faction who was looking to replace Hu, and he was almost assassinated (rumor among PLA) aboard a Navy ship and never stepped a foot into SH again afterward. So his hands were tied, governance was weak and Gov. corruption was rampant. Xi obviously has consolidated power, his policies have been targeting to please the mass under-class rather than business class/princelings. If anything, Xi’s policies are rather populist based (rein in corruption, take down rich tycoons, making poor people feel less poor not by helping them get rich but by bringing down rich people), and I’d be cautious with forming a view on XJP at this point beside the obvious fact he is more assertive and nationalistic.
