From the perspective of everyday Taiwanese the crackdown in HK is not only very relevant, but also highly visceral. There is a difference in capabilities that can be used to influence Taiwan, but the moves in HK demonstrated the CCP's intent and tolerance for a second "system". The extradition protests in HK did not pose an existential threat to the CCP, but it dealt with them like it was 1989 again.... The crackdown was more gradual and tactful, but the end result of mass arrests, suppression of dissent, and rewriting the narrative seem to follow a similar playbook.
