If you take away a man's true purpose in life you have removed his reason for being and, to me, that is a spiritual aspect. Not talking in terms of being a good Christian and following the tenets of that faith, I'm talking in terms of understanding that all of us are energetic beings and allowing our energy to be manipulated and used by others, for their own purposes, by force of a gun; this is how I interpret what Rand wrote.
