The app for independent voices

The hard part is knowing how to effectively channel the anger. I’ve almost decided that untargeted protests, unless their really big, are not among the most effective means to: a) stop all the killing; b) get food and other aid (e.g., medical) to a starving population, and c) rebuild Gaza and the West Bank for Palestinians without any control over them by Israel or its surrogates. And that’s just for starters.

Targeted protests, I think should begin in the U.S. at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) because it has been bought by Israel. One might ask why, either because the Dems are worthless or because they’re not as bad as the Republicans. The reason is that they hold themselves out as the opposition party, which is a lie. And we badly need an opposition party. Some people like to quote Emma Goldman about the uselessness of voting. But whether we like it or not, Congress controls the purse strings. As long as it keeps voting to send weapons to Israel, the genocide will continue. And voting gave us Trump. Voting gave us Biden. Not so useless as lethal. So the second strategy is to confront these Congress members wherever and however we can. Send them letters. Visit them in their offices. Attend town hall meetings (which, by the way, the Democrats don’t hold in their own back yards. I wonder why). Convince them that they will lose if they support the genocide. And mean it by withholding your vote. Don’t give in to the lesser evil blackmail from either the candidates themselves or their uncritical supporters, who are happy with the status quo. They’re not in the majority— we are. The votes in the Senate to cut off funding have already increased by 10 since April, not because most of these members have suddenly developed a conscience, but because they’re afraid for the first time that they may lose.
