It doesn't always work to appeal to people's selfishness. They might say, "Oh, how DARE they do that to ME!" but they won't automatically link it to supporting or not-supporting the genocide in Gaza. At best you get the "So sad, too bad. Thank heavens it has nothing to do with ME" response.
