Yes, I've heard it said. And yes, many parents are failing their kids, big time. I say, the appeal to compassion is the hook to reel the gullible in. It is not a legitimate appeal. You can be a very compassionate person without actively inviting people to take advantage of you and your children, and to harm you and your children.
