I remember when the food delivery model in China was touted as an example of how China has leapfrogged the US in technology, with the ability to order and receive food via your phone and receive it within minutes at almost no cost.

Turns out this model, like many other touted "innovations" or "advantages" in China is based on the exploitation of the huge class of migrant workers. This will end sooner than we think - either when they start to stand up for their rights or demographics eventually reshapes populations, it's just a matter of time.'

FWIW, this exploitation is also happening on a lesser scale in America with touted apps like Uber, Instacart, etc. We should be encouraging real tech innovation, not using tech to enable exploitation.
