As an aside, why does everyone say China is a superpower? By any definition of the word, China is not one, given its very limited military and diplomatic influence outside of its immediate vicinity in Asia. I think they are better classified as a Great Power residing in Asia, and Japan is a near Great Power slowly working itself back into another Great Power in order to balance against China's growing strength.
Compare China now to the old USSR, which wielded economic and military influence globally, whether Africa, Europe, Middle East, or Latin America and you can see that the definition of a global superpower does not yet describe China
