Michael, I'm sorry if I offended you. Cultures differ. The Chinese 'bystander effect' is perceived by westerners as a bad thing---a 'negative trait' because European culture teaches us to shame someone who doesn't help a stranger in dire distress. That shaming obviously is not practiced in China. The question is Why? And what are the implications? Those were the questions David asked to start this thread.
