On the weekend of October 15 and 16, WSJ online had a helpful article on Xi's anti-corruption campaign. The article showed how the whole anti-corruption campaign was really geared toward beating back any potential rivals to Xi, and their power bases. Seeing the "purges" piecemeal makes them lose their meaning, but seeing all of them as they related to others brings the whole strategy forward. Very interesting reading.
