To add a little nuance - I don't think they are failing to account for blowback. They are actually very aware and experienced with blowback (having faced it maybe 100+ times when you include all their wars and regime change operations).

The thing is, the "power elite", the oligarchy, the "rulers and masters of the universe" would not be the ones directly facing the deleterious consequences of "blowback". It would be the ordinary citizens of the world that would be left holding the bag and dealing with the repercussions of any blowbacks. The "global power elite" seem to be well protected (or seem to have taken precautions to be well protected) from the consequences of any blowback.

And I think that is precisely one of the reasons that these "global power elite" continue to wreck havoc on the world with seeming abandon - because they know that they are protected from any blowback (in most instances) and can get away with it.
