Having met and spoken with him when he was not on the stage lecturing, and then watching the videos of him in front of classes, my sense is that he was somehow channeling words from out this great, almost cosmic store of knowledge that he was able to tap into. I have been interested in mythology since childhood, for sixty years, and I've immersed myself in a lot of it. But could I, in a hundred years, speak as he did? Not even close. His ability to put all of our stories, our longing and our wisdom together into one long beautiful tale of our quest for truth and light - he seemed more than human to me. An avatar, if you will. A Jedi, disguised as a mild-mannered and unassuming professor. All without notes. Airborne, without a net. He was a Titan.
