I read that so long ago, I'm afraid I don't recall the scene. I do remember the first time I read Kosinski's The Painted Bird, and decided I would never ever whine about my childhood again. A soft life indeed for most of us. Where I live in the wild west there are many guys wearing their lives on their backs. I've come to recognize prison tats. Are you familiar with The Black Dolphin? The most dreaded prison in Russia. There are some docs out about it, fascinating but I suggest you don't watch any before bed. They don't mess around.
