I think you place too much blame on Donald Trump for the Democrats shortcomings and not enough blame on the Democratic Party itself. You are acting like the Democratic Party was some innocent bystander before Trump forced it to adopt Bush and Reaganite positions. No, the Democratic Party threw away its credentials when it elected Obama. It didn't transform, its true face was shown. If anything, Trump driving the Bushist/Cheneyist clique to the Democrats is a good thing because they cannot fool anyone anymore.
