This is a good summation. One needs to only look at what happened under Donald Trump as President.

I'm no Trump fan, but he was right to say that schools should be opened during the pandemic and that Germany shouldn't over-rely on Russia for its energy needs. But because Trump was in power and said both, lots of people wanted to do the opposite (and still are even after Trump is not President).

It makes me believe that, if Trump said during a rally that flat Earthers didn't know what they were talking about, people who oppose him would start declaring that only a Nazi would own a globe of the Earth.
