I think this is the most salient result of the meetings. While China no doubt expressed discomfort with Putin's flailing effort in Ukraine and the spike in fuel and food costs that has resulted, the real sea change is how the Central Asian countries now fear Russian revanchism and are looking to China to restrain Russia. And I think Xi made it clear China is willing to take that role. Which means that Russia will see its influence decline in another former Soviet area where it had been ascendant. Additionally, this is one more point of long-term friction that will eventually return the China/Russia relationship to antagonism, which is far more historically normal than the current Xi/Putin bro relationship.
