Has there been much oscillation on US public opinion towards China in recent years? My impression was that the American public perception of China has tended to follow fairly logical trends based on current events. Unless I am mistaken (which is quite possible!) it was quite high during the 30s and 40s due to the Japanese invasion, then very poor for decades as a result of the Korean War and mutual US-CCP hostility, then improving to a more neutral position as a result of the mutual outreach in the 70s and 80s, followed by a sharp drop after Tiananmen, then a return towards more neutral until the last few years. All of these changes would appear fairly logical in terms of being driven by developments in the US-China relationship.
