Chinese epidemiologists have clearly done great work on COVID, as the results speak for themselves, and so I want to believe it, but the political angle in deflecting blame for the outbreak is so clear that it makes it hard to believe that the scientists are in the driver's seat on this one. As you observe, the CCP has been its own worst enemy on this one by making it clear that they're still keen on refusing to fully accept the initial failure of the Wuhan outbreak.
