That's a strong argument. One of the articles I read said he had asked 'Where are the women?' when he walked into the nightclub, but that isn't definitive. I suppose it's quite possible that he targeted a gay nightclub AND wanted to retaliate for American anti-Muslim bombings, or that perhaps the latter was a cover for the former. Either way, not clearly an anti-gay hate crime in quite the manner it was portrayed, as I suspect the U of Waterloo attack doesn't quite fit the narrative either.
