Sorry to be so slow in replying! I absolutely agree about the decline of geniuses in academia and women's greater conformism and conventionality. I am wary of predicting future trends. I don't disagree with much of your analysis, though I would caution that reports about women being the "fastest growing group in suicide rates" is almost certainly misleading, given that men commit suicide at roughly 4X the rate of women (and in certain age brackets even higher). Whenever one demographic group is vastly underrepresented, any increase in that group's numbers, even a small increase, can be made to look proportionally large and alarming. Of course women will be harmed, at least indirectly, as men are harmed and families deteriorate. What strikes me about women's situation is that women still have choices and a good deal of social support; whatever they do tends to be applauded by the society at large. If a woman decides to go for the CEO position, that's great. If she wants to work part-time because she doesn't want to be a slave to her work, that's fine too. If she wants to devote herself to her children, that's fine also. Motherhood is still highly respected (alas, the same cannot be said for fatherhood). Being told every day that one is courageous and marvelous does have its moral hazard, but it is better than being told that one is useless and toxic. I'm more worried about men than about women right now; long term, things don't look good for either.
