I've heard anecdotally that single parents are often particularly enthusiastic about having a child who is transitioning. The parents themselves get a lot of sympathy and attention; are often praised for their courage and love for their children in supporting them. They get to have meetings with school counsellors and teachers, all of whom are very positive about the child's transition. One might almost see the craze by parents as a form of Munchausen's by proxy.
