To me, the largest drawback on these systems must be that they are cooled by highly flammable liquid sodium. When I was a kid growing up in a suburb of Detroit in 1966, they had a near catastrophe at the nearby Fermi fast breeder reactor that was sodium cooled. A small piece of metal broke off internally and partially blocked a coolant tube. We have wasted fortunes on solar and wind, and created mountains of unrecyclable parts, and the money would have been better spent on refining the designs of nuclear facilities.
