It's not as easy to use as a means of exchange in Western nations, compared to other places in the world where they are already using it. We have much less of a "need" because we have the privilege of a "stable" currency (only ~2% hidden tax/inflation a year). I tend to buy and hold as a long-term investment as insurance against the guaranteed debasement of the USD. For now, there are some options like Bitrefill, that allow you to purchase vendor gift cards and prepaid debit cards directly with BTC, on-chain or with Lightning (though they accept shitcoins/crypto as well, much to my chagrin). There are many people who get paid directly in BTC (using services like Bitwage) and live as much as they can only using BTC. A transition would be a long process, and more difficult for us who have been living with convenient technological solutions and financial infrastructure, but by no means impossible or even unfeasible.
