There is clearly a disparity between how the PRC perceives this issue and the West perceives this issue. The PRC clearly takes it far more seriously than the West, which, given the seriousness of the charge, really should not be surprised by the PRC reaction, and really should have done far more than cosmetic and inaccurate sanctions.

I find the combination of the ernestness of the charge, the lightness of action and the dismay at The PRC reactions (as is evident this week from official EU reaction and the discussion here) rather bizarre.

As I said several months ago here when the Gencide and Mass Rape charge first became official, this is a real test for Western credibility. By the display so far, I am just not confident that policy makers and the readers here appreciate what it really means and what it will take.

Words must mean what they mean and must be matched by actions. Otherwise this fight is over before it begins.
