A wise person once said if someone or group seems to behave inexplicably or irrationally, make a list of your assumptions and check which ones are wrong. The easier and hence popular route is to keep all existing assumptions and say they must be mad/stupid/'bad' or variations on that theme.

More than ever, I hope that the decision makers in China and the West do not just take the mentally easier options...
