But, on a broader note, I wish the Chinese government and media would stop playing dumb and recognize that there are lots of people in countries other than the US - many of which have ratified the Rome Statute, as well as the ICCPR - who also think what is happening in Xinjiang is unacceptable. To "what about America" all the time is not a persuasive argument.

People all over the world call out the American government for their human rights violations, including many Americans - even American politicians! There is open discussion about these issues. Even if those directly responsible for America's crimes do not face justice, at least the country as a whole is confronting and grappling with its own problematic legacy. That's better than nothing at all.

Contrast with China, where there is only one party line: blanket denial of any wrongdoing, followed by bringing up America. Who do they think they are kidding?
