If she walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

Hope's failure is that--like so many in the MAGA heirarcy--she actually thinks she's that much smarter than the rest of us; that we didn't recognize the grift a long time ago. And now they "look" like domestic terrorists. She thinks that she was personally hurt when the grift was laid bare by the actions of the very insurrectionists she and other MAGAts had been stroking (and fleecing) for years, actions she and her crowd were flirting with all along.

Hanging around a sub-set of Americans with severely underdeveloped critical thinks skills (aka the base) has left these folks with a twisted picture of America writ large.
