“Self-perpetuating egoism” is exactly the right way to put it. It is all about ego. It’s all about “likes” and shit. The thing that always weirds me out, that I’ll never get, is when I see, like, cel phone footage on the local news and I always wonder,”How did it even occur to that person to pull out their phone and immediately start filming that?” If I see a fight or a car crash or whatever, I’ll be like,”Holy shit! Did you see that?” but it never, ever occurs to me to pull out my phone. The fact that people’s first instinct when they see something crazy is to pull out their phones and film so they can post it on social media is, to me, very weird. I mean, there’s been many instances where people filming shit on their phones has been very important, but it just doesn’t ever occur to me. I don’t ever want to think about my phone. When I come home, I set my phone on the dining room table and that’s it. When I get a text, I’ll check it. The next time I get up off of the couch to grab a beer haha. No apps on my phone at all.
