I think what I was trying to say, David, was that if you are an emerging power in the world, with pretensions about being a - or THE - world superpower, then you have a template laid out for you. The US has been one of two dominant powers since 1945 and since the fall of the Soviet, the only super power. A unipolar world. The playbook written by the US in Guatemala, Vietnam, Indonesia, and various central and South American states, not to mention, the Middle East is one of assassinations, undermining and overthrowing elected or established governments, extrajudicial killings, and supporting the extermination of large numbers of people who were regarded as possible enemies - that last one was Indonesia. Yes, I am aware of ‘whataboutery’, but on the other side of that coin is, ‘well we did it so we can’t complain if others do it as well’. And the US have done all this since 1945. They set the tone, the rules if you like of international politics.
