Thank you Anne. The suicide rates in males have always been particularly high. Whether or not these rates are a reflection of male/female relationships is impossible to know. They may simply be a part of what it is to be male. In Australia the highest suicide rates are with elderly males - if I correctly recall from the period in my life (working in adult mental health) when I was interested in such things. I think the greatest risk is with males aged 85 and over. As regards your other point, I think it is difficult to extrapolate from one example to a whole population, although I do it often I know such a practice is flawed. For example, as a male myself, I don’t feel threatened by women, I have no problem with who I am and my gender, and I think this whole ‘make crisis’ thing is a beat up.
