With such a long history, Palestine was home to Jews, Muslims, Arabs, Christians, Druze, pagans, and lord knows how many more groups. Hard to keep them all straight in my head, but Jews and Arabs became the two people with legitimate rights to states of their own in Palestine when the Ottomans were conquered.

It was entirely Jewish for more than 1,000 years . . . then the neighbors moved in :-)
