Apple has a certain vision for technology; it develops the APIs (application programming interface) tools to enable development of these future tools.
I do some development on the Apple development platform called Xcode, and the tools and documentation are all there. When they want to promote something there, they tell me how to build them, with examples. In order to get a feel for the new technology, all I need to do is follow the instructions and build. If I like it, then I can think about what can be done with this new technology. If I want to sell a product or service, I have to go through approval by humans from Apple.
Google is more open and says "You can develop anything you want", and gives the code to develop these tools. But hackers can also develop with these tools, and they can plant bugs in these tools. Then they can use these tools to steal data and confidential information from other people. The product approval process is much faster and less restricted than Apple's. This is the problem of an open system: there is more freedom, but there is also more risk.
I see Apple as being closer to the Chinese political model, and Google as closer to the US political model. As a citizen, I cannot choose between the US and China; that was determined at birth.
As a developer though, I CAN choose which platform I develop for. I choose Apple not because i think it is superior, but because it works better FOR ME. I have no quarrel with people who develop for other platforms; that is their choice.
