Bitcoin and crypto-currencies had a short-term advantage until central banks got wise and started thinking about issuing their own national digital currencies.

Once the digital yuan is officially issued, most Chinese will lose their interest in BTC and other crypto-currencies. They will continue to be used among criminal organizations and for money-laundering, but they will only be peripheral for everyone else.
