Two thoughts on Hunter Biden:
1) Agree with Bill it won’t and shouldn’t hurt his dad, his son is a ne’er do well (which isn’t to say he’s worthy of mockery or not worthy of empathy) who clearly traded on the family name to make a pittance (successfully with Russia, unsuccessfully with China it appears), but his dad is not corrupt, was never involved and was never influenced by it—and if we are going to make an election issue out of family corruption, uh, outside of Fox News world everyone can see how it’s not just Trump’s kids who trade on the family name for influence (umm, Kushner’s Qatari investment to the tune of hundreds of MILLIONS not thousands saving his family’s bacon from his catastrophic 07 midtown office building deal he made when he was a kid and wanted to play important businessman?), and apparently judging by Trump’s soft line on middle eastern autocrats, successfully influenced Kushner’s dad (in law) ie Trump, Trump himself openly trades money for influence/access with the ongoing emoluments violation. But, again, outside of foxverse everyone knows this and so there isn’t much reason to harp on it as anyone IN foxverse will just take it as a tribal attack and get very upset. Moving on.
2) It would be great if Biden were to implement something like Warren’s proposed lobbying ban (for former congressional members and high-ranking cabinet officials), maybe for a few years after office which is how the UK does it I believe? At the same time we should of course adopt Singapore style compensation schemes, say $10 million a year for senators and $2.5 for reps? That would severely curtail the need for them to suck up to lobbying firms in order to get paid after office. Anyway that’s not going to happen, but an actual drain the swamp type thing banning lobbying and the families of high ranking people from doing business with hostile foreign powers (looking at you too, Elaina Chao) would be something great that could come out of this. Here’s to praying for the unlikely.
