WRT to allegations of election interference by China's diplomats during the last two federal elections in Canada (2019 and 2021), the opposition motion to launch a public inquiry, first tabled by the NDP, did pass, as expected, with some minor amendments.

Nonetheless, the motion is only advisory and it would seem that even some Conservative Party members are not convinced that an inquiry, if indeed the Trudeau government were to appoint such, would produce anything to either refute or confirm what has already been reported in reports by the Globe and Mail and Global News.

This much has also been said by security and intelligence academic expert, Wesley Wark, of the Centre for International Governance Innovation.

More generally, even senior public servants (supposedly non-partisan) have hinted, none too subtly, that the reporting (which they did not directly comment on) should be understood to be incomplete and out-of-context.

Much was made of a report issued by the Critical Election Incident Public Protocol panel, made up of senior public servants, that found "During the 2021 general election... [there was no] ... "foreign interference that threatened Canada’s ability to have a free and fair election" during the general election of 20 September 2021.

Like I said before, who knows where this will go... although it has to be said that none of this reflects well on the Prime Minister or the Liberal Party of Canada
