The assassination of Shinzo Abe will likely be a topic that censors in China will be working overtime to suppress. I'm not sure that China's leaders really want out-of-control social media discussions, memes and narratives about Japan (regardless of how willing the CPC has been in the recent past to stoke anti-Japanese sentiments).

After all, if their goal is to lessen Japan's adhesion to the US-led opposition to China's increasingly self-aggrandizing behaviour, stoking anti-Japanese narratives would hardly be conducive to building the amity needed to convince the Japanese that China is Japan's friend.
