NEW: The Justice Department sued Maine today over its alleged mistreatment of hundreds of children with mental health and/or developmental disabilities.
The lawsuit alleges that Maine violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by “failing to administer its services, programs, and activities for children with behavioral health disabilities in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs.”
Allegations relate to segregating and even institutionalizing children in question unnecessarily, including with out-of-state placements.
