Xi is carrying through the mission of Deng Xiaoping: China can be socialist, rich and powerful. He stated as much in 1979. Socialism does not = poverty he said and markets don’t only exist in capitalism. It took about 15 years to finally get through the party organs and into the constitution in 1993 that the Cn eco system is a “socialist market economy”. My reading of Xi - I wish I had read less - is that he will realise the dream of Deng and Mao to remake China. Too many of us have not understood this, in my view.
