Without government - no one would be able to pursue their self interest. The lie is that we'll all be better off allowing the rich to run our lives with their corporations and privatized ownership. Corporations are far worse than any representative government .

It should also be pointed out here that the US no longer possesses a Representative government, it is now controlled and dictated by Monied interests - the very people Libertarians would foolishly give more power to - given the Libertarian Peter Pan psychology that government is always evil and extreme Individualism is always good - which plays right into the hands of the already obscenely rich.
