Same for me with the bisphosphonates being pushed for osteoporosis. I was prescribed the monthly dose, read the disclaimer pamphlet, and said "no thanks." What made me do further research was that other disclaimers usually said "side effects may include" but this one kept saying "side effects include." Uh-oh. Sure enough, as I discovered, my risk of breakage might decrease from approx 5% (already low and only a "risk") to approx 3.4%, but I'd incur a 30% risk of esophageal damage. No thanks. I'll keep my working esophagus and take my minimal chance of breakage. I also discovered that the action of these bisphosphonates was the equivalent of filling a pothole without first reaming out the crumbled asphalt, or filling a tooth cavity without removing the decayed part.
