I’ll not get into a debate about the historiography here. My point is merely that even if your narrative were accurate, the US and West have mostly left that era behind.

Were the PRC not run by people who’ve swallowed their own propaganda, they might consider that encouraging American restraint is in their best interests.

The US is, like it or not, still vastly more powerful than the PRC. Were America actually committed to “stopping their peaceful rise,” China would be as poor as it was in 1979 today. Best not push until it becomes committed to just that.
