I was reading a few odds and ends on the effectiveness of the sanctions regime leveled against Russia, and someone was actually making the claim that Russia's freight and passenger rail network is starting to fall to pieces because the three sources of cassette bearings for rolling stock were all foreign-owned and -operated plants, owned by SKF, Timken, and one other.
I know the Chinese source some of those components domestically for their latest HSR trainsets, so I would imagine they can produce less technically-demanding components for freight and slow passenger trains.
Anyone have any background that would offer insight?
