If you are going to go old school, might I recommend gladiatorial games for those convicted of these crimes? The Romans might have been on to something there, and just think how long the memory of what befalls those who betray the human race would be in the video era. People would be watching for years. I am ok with just life imprisonment, or execution, but if you are going to go medieval, turn it up to 11 and go all the way ancient. :)
