I would agree. It's Western interests that financed and built modern China; I would push things back to the 1980s. As Chinese know-how is largely derivative and bought (or stolen), as you say, it may not be able to stand on its own. Overall, the CCP has a lot working against it -- including itself -- and very little working in its favor.
