Thank you for this elaboration. I was thinking of a China colleague of mine, David Diebold, who sadly died in February, who negotiated one of the first trade agreements sometime in the 80s. His Chinese counterpart in the negotiation was none other than Jiang Zemin. Yes, it took time after for things to gain steam, but his work helped put things in motion. I know in recent years he was not pleased with the direction things were going in the Middle Kingdom with the CCP becoming increasingly cruel, petulant (XJP is a princeling, after all), and harmful to the Chinese nation.
