I still doubt the mainland is serious about this, though it could finally be insane about this. In addition to the weaknesses pointed out in this article, from what I've heard and read from intelligence sources, China's ability to wage a hot war lasts about 2 weeks, and then its shiny objects begin to fall apart (consider maintenance on the mainland generally). And, of course, the economic cost to China would most likely be astronomical. Even the likes of Jamie Dimon and whoever's in charge of Apple these days might finally say enough's enough.
